It’s easy to get sucked into one's daily grind, to go through the motions of your day-to-day life and not give a second thought to what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, and how it all makes you feel. This type of lifestyle creates a fast track to burning out. So With January upon us, the month that sparks a fire under most people, I urge you to take a moment and reflect on your day-to-day and see in what areas you can keep as is, those you can give new strength and energy to, and those that need a fresh perspective.
Use this guide to do a deep dive into where you are today;
Here’s the part where you reflect. Take a moment and applaud yourself for the accomplishments you’ve made this past year, it’s easy to get caught up in where we want to be, but we should always celebrate how far we’ve come. Then, reset your goals for the coming years – what accomplishments do you want to be celebrating this time next year?
Analyze Your Habits
Habits are what we’re made of – the way we eat, the way we talk, the activities we take part in and everything in-between stem from habits we’ve created overtime. Are there any habits that you need to break? Any that are holding you back? Write them down and make it a goal to rid yourself of these bad habits and work on creating new ones that will help you be a better version of you. – fun fact, it takes just 21 days to break an old habit and replace it with a new one!
Declutter Your Space
Not only should you literally de-clutter the space around you - whether that’s your bedroom, office, or whole house – but your life in general should go through a decluttering phases. Take a look at who you surround yourself with and what you spend your time doing. If you have friends that you stay connected to simply because you’ve been friends for a long time, it might be better to distance yourself from them, especially if you find that your energy takes a plunge around them. What about your daily activities? Do you find yourself scrolling through social media platforms and wasting time? Perhaps it’s time to delete a few apps and focus more on the real world. Freeing yourself from unwanted things will allow for a liberating experience!
Take Some Alone Time
At the end of the day, you need to worry about how you feel. You can’t spend your life catering to other needs and putting your own on the backburner. So this year, be a little bit more selfish. Spend a Friday night taking a bath with a face mask instead of spending your money at a restaurant you didn’t want to go to in the first place, hit the gym instead of hitting the snooze button, and follow your own dietary preferences without thinking about what others are going to say. Caring for your mind and body regularly will allow for you to be a happier, more positive person!
